Kim Kardashian Vs. Jada Pinkett Smith In Tom Ford: Who Owned The Look?

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith hit up the Toronto International Film Festival in support of a documentary on political activist Angela Davis, and it looks as though she may have borrowed a look from reality star Kim Kardashian. She arrived to the Festival looking stunning while wearing a backless Tom Ford dress that featured a gold zipper detail and a pair of matching Tom Ford strappy ankle wrap heels. Back in July, Kim Kardashian rocked the same look to the BET Awards (including the hair), however she paired her dress with a pair of gold Tom Ford chain sandals instead.

1978: Jobs' daughter Lisa is born to girlfriend Chrisann Brennan.

1979: Jobs visits Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, or PARC, and is inspired by a computer with a graphical user interface.

1980: Apple goes public, raising $110 million in one of the biggest initial public offerings to date.

1982: Annual revenue climbs to $1 billion.

1983: The Lisa computer goes on sale with much fanfare, only to be pulled two years later. Jobs lures John Sculley away from Pepsico Inc. to serve as Apple's CEO.

1984: Iconic "1984" Macintosh commercial directed by Ridley Scott airs during the Super Bowl. The Macintosh computer goes on sale.

1985: Jobs and Sculley clash, leading to Jobs' resignation. Wozniak also resigns from Apple this year.

1986: Jobs starts Next Inc., a new computer company making high-end machines for universities. He also buys Pixar from "Star Wars" creator George Lucas for $10 million.

1989: First NeXT computer goes on sale with a $6,500 price tag.

1991: Apple and IBM Corp. announce an alliance to develop new PC microprocessors and software. Apple unveils portable Macs called PowerBook.

1993: Apple introduces the Newton, a hand-held, pen-based computer. The company reports quarterly loss of $188 million in July. Sculley is replaced as CEO by Apple president Michael Spindler. Apple restructures, and Sculley resigns as chairman. At Next, Jobs decides to focus on software instead of whole computers.

1994: Apple introduces Power Macintosh computers based on the PowerPC chip it developed with IBM and Motorola. Apple decides to license its operating software and allow other companies to "clone" the Mac, adopting the model championed by Microsoft Corp.

1995: The first Mac clones go on sale. Microsoft releases Windows 95, which is easier to use than previous versions and is more like the Mac system. Apple struggles with competition, parts shortages and mistakes predicting customer demand. Pixar's "Toy Story," the first commercial computer-animated feature, hits theaters. Pixar goes to Wall Street with an IPO that raises $140 million.

1996: Apple announces plans to buy Next for $430 million for the operating system Jobs' team developed. Jobs is appointed an adviser to Apple. Gil Amelio replaces Spindler as CEO.

1997: Jobs becomes "interim" CEO after Amelio is pushed out. He foreshadows the marketing hook for a new product line by calling himself "iCEO." Jobs puts an end to Mac clones.

1998: Apple returns to profitability. It shakes up personal computer industry in 1998 with the candy-colored, all-in-one iMac desktop, the original models shaped like a futuristic TV. Apple discontinues the Newton.

2000: Apple removes "interim" label from Jobs' CEO title.

2001: The first iPod goes on sale, as do computers with OS X, the modern Mac operating system based on Next software. Apple also releases iTunes software.

2003: Apple launches the iTunes Music Store with 200,000 songs at 99 cents each, giving people a convenient way to buy music legally online. It sells 1 million songs in the first week.

2004: Jobs undergoes surgery for a rare but curable form of pancreatic cancer. Apple discloses his illness after the fact.

2005: Apple expands the iPod line with the tiny Nano and an iPod that can play video. The company also announces that future Macs will use Intel chips.

2006: Disney buys Pixar for $7.4 billion. Jobs becomes Disney's largest individual shareholder, and much of his wealth is derived from this sale.

2007: Apple releases its first smartphone, the iPhone. Crowds camp overnight at stores to be one of the first to own the new device.

2008: Speculation mounts that Jobs is ill, given weight loss. In September he kicks off an Apple event and says, "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated," making a play off a famous Mark Twain quote after Bloomberg News accidentally publishes, then retracts, an obituary that it had prepared in advance.

2009: Jobs explains severe weight loss by saying he has a treatable hormone imbalance and that he will continue to run Apple. Days later he backtracks and announces he will be on medical leave. He returns to work in June. Later it is learned that he received a liver transplant.

2010: Apple sells 15 million of its newest gadget, the iPad, in nine months, giving rise to a new category of modern touch-screen tablet computers.

Jan. 17, 2011: In a memo to Apple employees, Jobs announces a second medical leave with no set duration. Cook again steps in to run day-to-day operations. Jobs retains CEO title and remains involved in major decisions.

Aug. 24, 2011: Apple announces that Jobs is resigning as CEO. Cook takes the CEO title, and Apple names Jobs chairman.

Oct. 5, 2011: Jobs dies at 56. Apple announces his death without giving a specific cause.

Beyoncé Reveals Pregnancy at '2011 MTV Video Music Awards' (VIDEO)

Beyonce wowed the world when she revealed her pregnant belly during her performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, (and as she walked the red carpet at the event) but now that the word is out, the singer is flaunting her baby bump for all to see.

The 30-year-old superstar, who just celebrated her birthday Sept. 4., was spotted vacationing with hubby Jay-Z, 41, in Croatia, sporting a white bikini and chain belly accessory, putting to rest the rumors that she faked her bump during the VMAs. There is certainly no denying she and Jay-Z are expecting as she showed off her growing tummy in her white two-piece.

Baring your baby bump in a bikini seems to be the latest trend in Hollywood. Check out some more pregnant celebs sporting swimsuits below!

The Mo’Nique Show’ canceled

Earlier today, I heard that “The Mo’Nique Show” had been axed. I had sent an email out to various BET publicists to ask what was up. No word back.

At about 1:30 p.m., I called Rodney Perry, who was Mo’Nique’s sidekick on the show. He said he was running into a meeting and didn’t answer my question. While I was at lunch over at the mall court, at 1:40 p.m. EST, he texted me: “I was told indefinite hiatus.”

That’s a euphemism for canceled.

In an interview I did at 2:40 p.m., the stand-up comic said he enjoyed the experience working with Mo’Nique. “I’m selling out shows now,” he said. “That’s a win.” He heard the news from Mo’Nique’s husband but hasn’t spoken to the Oscar-winning actress yet. (He wouldn’t say when he knew about this, implying he has known for awhile.)

“We did some good work,” Perry said. “And I think the show is significant. There hasn’t been an outlet for people of color late night since Arsenio.”

The talk show, which Mo’Nique compared to a high-energy nightly party, lasted two seasons and had been taped in Turner Studios, which are now being used for BET’s show “Reed Between the Lines” through October. When I heard that earlier today, I wondered if that meant “Mo’Nique” was not coming back or had been moved to another studio. If her show were coming back, she would be taping by August. (Like many shows, it does not tape original episodes during the summer.)

This didn’t appear to be an issue of ratings. I didn’t have time to do an entire season’s check on ratings so I sampled four weeks in April, 2011 vs. April 2010. Ratings from April 5 to April 29, 2010 averaged 615,000 viewers a night. From April 4 to April 28, 2011, her show averaged 586,000. That’s only a five percent drop.

Mediatakeout, which broke the story, said there were conflicts between BET management and Mo’Nique. Was it creative and/or financial? The story does not say. It also doesn’t say if BET will seek another talk-show host or just drop the concept.

Perry isn’t sure why the show was cut but thinks it might have been a financial decision. “They haven’t had this type of investment ever,” he said. “We did 300 shows over two seasons. That’s a huge investment.”

Beyoncé - Best Thing I Never Had

R. I. P. AMY WINEHOUSE

Following the singer's sudden passing, the industry pays their respect via social media.
Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London flat on Saturday, according to multiple reports. The troubled singer was just 27-years old.

While not many were surprised by her passing, the death shook Hollywood with many stars paying their respects on Twitter and Facebook.

Dr. Drew, who often weighs in on celebrities suffering from substance abuse, said "SO sad, another lost to addiction. A reminder this is often a fatal condition. Recovery is possible, but sadly not for Amy Winehouse."

Kelly Osbourne, a friend of Winehouse's, struggled with the news. "I can't even breathe right now I'm crying so hard I just lost 1 of my best friends. I love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!"

Ashton Kutcher attempted to make light of the situation by posting, "I nevr know wht 2 post after paying respect 2 sum1 who died. Just seems lk anything funny is inappropriate. mayB I'll just go C Harry Potter."

Songstress Rihanna tweeted, "I am genuinely heartbroken about this #DearAmy."

Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson said, "OMG RIP Amy Winehouse…"

Fellow Brit Kate Moss wrote, "R.I.P Amy Winehouse, So upset, my heart goes out to her, sad to see such talent vanish from the world #RIP."

Film critic Richard Roeper made mention of the eerie "27 Club," posting: "Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Kurt Cobain and now Amy Winehouse: all died at 27."

Jermaine Dupri said, "Singer Amy Winehouse found dead at her home in London, DAMN!!! RIP."

Vampire Diaries writer Kevin Williamson tweeted, "Amy Winehouse lived longer than I expected. Is that awful of me? I'm sorry, Amy #RIP."

Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz noted, "Super sad to hear about the news. RIP. Never take life for granted."

Fellow musician Janelle Monae wrote, "Heart is heavy. My heart goes out 2 Amy Winehouse's family, loved ones. Praying for their strength during this time."

Katy Perry, whose husband Russell Brand hails from England, posted, "RIP Amy Winehouse. May she finally rest in peace."

Moby, who was with Winehouse during her now infamous performance in Serbia, issued an apology. "After our show in serbia I wish I'd been able to help amy. I'm sorry," he said.

Though Kelly Clarkson didn't know Winehouse personally, she took a great deal of time and thought while reflecting on the bigger picture.

"I heard the news about Amy Winehouse. I'm incredibly sad. I didn't know her but I met her a few times and got to hear her sing before she blew up. She was a beautiful and talented girl. I'm angry. What a waste of a gifted person. What a shame she saw no hope and continued living her life in that manor," she wrote. "I have been that low emotionally and mentally and that is overwhelming. I keep asking myself why some of us are spared and the others are made examples. I'm very angry and sad. I don't know why it's bothering me so much. Sometimes I think this job will be the death of us all, or at least the emotional death of us all. Maybe that is why as a little kid in sunday school I learned that God didn't want false gods or idols. I thought it was terribly selfish of God as a child but I think I get it now. He didn't want us following people or things that are imperfect and not so much for the followers but for the gods and/or idols who will never be what everyone wishes or needs them to be because we are made imperfect. He knew we wouldn't be able to handle the pressure, the shame, the glory, or the power the spotlight brings. I am distraught. I am also extremely grateful and thankful for the people who love me and support me. Without such amazing friends and family who knows where I'd be. My thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family. I am so sorry for your loss. I pray for peace in your hearts."

Beyonce Reveals Top Beauty Secrets

Okay, maybe Beyonce shared her beauty secrets with Allure Magazine first, but that’s because SoJones didn’t ask first, we were too busy giving you news around the world! Still, we couldn’t help but gander at what Beyonce does to stay looking her best – and no, it involves more than just a “freakum” dress! What at-home beauty treatment do you find most relaxing? “There’s a scrub by Carol’s Daughter—Ocean Sea Salt Scrub—it feels like the beach and it has the most beautiful scent. I’m always rushing, and this scrub is moisturizing, so it cuts out a step for me because I don’t have to completely cover myself with lotion.” What’s your must-have beauty product? “I love the Rosebud Salve in the blue can. [Ed note: It's Smith's!] I wear it with my lipstick. I did this trick last summer, when I was on vacation: I used it to prime my lashes before curling. It was like a natural mascara. It made the lashes hold the curl and look shiny. I use it for everything! And I love [L'Oréal] Elnett hairspray. It’s very light and holds whatever hairstyle you want.” What’s you favorite hair look from your real life—not from a movie or red carpet? “In real life, I like natural curls as opposed to ‘I just put a curling iron through my hair’—almost bedhead. Not too perfect. I love when my color grows out a little bit and the tips of my hair look sun-kissed.” What’s the best trick you’ve learned from a pro while in the makeup chair? “[Makeup artists] have a spray, it’s an after-spray. They sell it in every line, MAC has one. [Ed note: MAC Fix+] After you put your powder on—I don’t know how it does it—but it makes your skin look like skin again. It takes away the chalkiness. That always makes me look more natural—you can see my pores and the shine in my skin. I use it every day now. I won’t wear a powder if I don’t have that. I keep one in my purse!” Who are your beauty icons? “I have many. I really appreciate Audrey Hepburn, and of course, Marilyn [Monroe]. I like risk takers like Cher and Diana Ross. I like people that find what looks really good on them. I think that’s the most important tip. There are things that I love that I know won’t work for me—these women found the perfect silhouette for their bodies, the perfect cut of suits and dresses, the perfect hairstyle. Their choices made them more beautiful rather than distracting from their beauty.”

Nicki Minaj Breaks Silence On Jaw-Dropping Lil Wayne Lap Dance

"Well, I have to say, I been giving lap dances [during the tour], but I didn't know Wayne was gonna jump out and pop out the back," Nicki told MTV News. "I literally was up there trying to get a boy, then I turn around and I see this cute little dread in the chair with his legs dangling off. And I was like, 'What?' I was super nervous." (MTV) Nicki Minaj usually treats one male fan to a lap dance during her concerts, but the crowd was in for a surprise when that man happened to be Lil Wayne. Young Money's First Lady (and her jaw-dropping booty) danced up on a grinning Weezy during the "I Am Music II" tour stop at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum on Sunday (March 27). He was so overcome by the experience that he eventually fell out of his chair. Now that's a moment for life Nicki Minaj had a wild stage show last night in Providence as she kicked off the "I Am Music II" tour with Lil Wayne, Travis Barker and Rick Ross. She ran through a few of her Pink Friday hits before summoning a lucky fan to the stage. She then instructed him to "Keep your legs open, hands behind your back, and keep your mouth shut!" (Necole Bitchie) "Of course, if Wayne would have me, yes," Minaj told Tim Westwood when asked if she will appear on Tha Carter IV. "I think that's going to be very anticipated. I think it's already being anticipated. His beat selection alone is going to friggin' kill. I've already heard a couple of the beats, in fact, the other day, I went to tell this producer, 'Yo, hold that beat for me.' And he said, Wayne already took it. And it hurt my heart, I was like, 'Errr'. But yeah, he's snatching them up. He's ready. I cannot wait. I'm just, I'm proud of him. I'm super proud of him." ("Tim Westwood TV")
Early on, Minaj rapped about wearing Ed Hardy ("I lived and shopped in Jamaica, Queens," she says). These days she attends the Grammys in hair-to-toe custom Givenchy cheetah print. "I tend to like booties...[pause]"--she takes a beat to clarify: no sexual meaning implied--"and really flashy shoes: totally studded out, in five colors with an insane platform." This knack for fashion exhibitionism often earns her comparisons to Lil' Kim, but Minaj is more like Busta Rhymes in Gaga packaging: Unlike Kim, her style choices, and even her more sexual lyrics, seem based on her own desires, and her eccentric image masks a steely seriousness. She says she's "fighting for the girls who never thought they could win." But it seems victory may already be hers. (Elle Magazine) I have a lot of freedom to be crazy. I can rap in a London accent, make weird faces, wear spandex, wigs, and black lipstick," Minaj explained in an interview. "I can be more creative than the average male rapper. And I can show my boobs. Guys can't do that...I think the world is getting more gay-friendly, so hip-hop is too. But it's harder to imagine an openly gay male rapper being embraced. People view gay men as having no street credibility. But I think we'll see one in my lifetime." "I think very often people miss that I'm from New York, and I don't really know why that is, but I remember I said on Twitterone time, 'Shout out to Queens,' and all of the gay boys thought I was talking to them, and I realized that people haven't gotten that I'm Southside Jamaica, Queens, New York City. I feel like I say it a lot, but I guess I'm not saying it that much, or it's that I'm so diverse and I don't always rap with the New York accent--I switch it up, you know. People don't see me as just repping one city or one state. I actually really like that. That was always my goal: to be able to bridge that gap, you know, whether it's to London." (XXL Magazine)

Elizabeth Taylor: classic beauty in every sense
By SAMANTHA CRITCHELL, AP Fashion Writer Samantha Critchell, Ap Fashion Writer
Thu Mar 24, 7:03 am ET

.Elizabeth Taylor was the antithesis of today's Hollywood fashion icon, who is eager to be seen as an everywoman. She was always dressed like a movie star: hair done, makeup on and lots of jewelry. Never would you see Taylor in jeans and a T-shirt.

And while she was famous for her Oscars, iconic roles and many husbands, she was most renowned for her beauty — the violet, almond-shaped eyes, creamy skin, pouty lips and raven hair. She died Wednesday at 79 from congestive heart failure.

[Related: Congestive heart failure facts]

"She was incredibly beautiful, funny, smart, charming and super-glamorous," said designer Michael Kors. "In today's world, people who combine all of those attributes with a big life in the public eye and a big talent are few and far between. One of a kind means just that — there is just one."

The public saw her mature from a young curly haired tomboy in "National Velvet" to the sultry "Cleopatra." Yet no matter the time, place or role, her glamour was consistent, and that was inspiring to women, even if they could never quite replicate it.

"Every quality that we consider classically beautiful, she had," said Amy Keller Laird, beauty director of Allure. "She was sexy and girlish at once, she had both those qualities all through her life."

In 1951, Taylor showed off her legendary 19-inch waist in a strapless dress with a bodice top, full tulle skirt and delicate flowers at the neckline designed by Edith Head. InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein said the outfit was the "blueprint for prom dresses of the `50s."

She had the same influence on lingerie styles after she wore a lace-trimmed slip in "Butterfield 8." And black kohl eyeliner was all the rage after "Cleopatra."

Somehow, she even made caftans stylish in the `70s, Rubenstein said with a laugh.

Rubenstein said he had the pleasure of meeting her a few times. "As a child, she was eerily beautiful — she never had a child's face, and as a woman, she was unmatchably beautiful," he said.

In person, the most striking thing about her was her impeccable features, but her broader appeal, the one the world saw in photographs, was her overall glamour, he said.

"When she walked into a room, she just had the most amazing presence about her," added designer Elizabeth Emanuel, who is best-known as Princess Diana's wedding dress designer but who also made several looks for Taylor, including caftans. "She was just incredible."

The big studios trained her to always step out the door as glamourpuss Elizabeth Taylor: She wore the role of movie star all the time, and she didn't apologize for it.

"She was an incredible beauty and she had an awareness of her own beauty. Even those we think are great beauties today play it down and speak modestly — there's always something they don't like and they apologize for it, but she never did," Rubenstein said. "She was aware of her gifts and truly appreciated them."

He also noted that Taylor made sure any and all of her suitors, from boyfriends and husbands to reporters, knew that she liked gifts and that she expected them. After all, one of the most important diamonds of all time, a 69-carat stone, was a gift from husband No. 5 and 6, Richard Burton. It is now known as the Taylor-Burton Diamond.

[Related: Famous Liz Taylor marriage quotes]

Taylor not only owned many pieces of statement jewelry — unlike today's starlets, who borrow them — but she'd wear them often instead of storing them. That goes back to the movie-star thing.

At the Oscars in 1970, she asked costumer Head to create a gown that would show off her necklace, ending up in a blue gown with a very low V bustline.

"Elizabeth Taylor was a style icon who always followed her own unique and daring fashion vision," said Jamie Cadwell, director of the Diamond Information Center, a trade organization. "Her love of jewelry was unsurpassed, and women everywhere continue to be inspired by her incredible collection."

In her clothes, Taylor had a preference for draping, said Emanuel.

Her longevity as a style influencer is proven by the longtime success of her fragrance collections launched with Elizabeth Arden. White Diamonds, which followed 1980s-era Passion and was one of the original celebrity perfumes, has been a beauty-counter best-seller for 20 years.

The fragrances will continue, according to a company statement. "Our best tribute to Elizabeth Taylor will be to continue the legacy of the brands she created and loved so much," said chairman and CEO E. Scott Beattie.

"White Diamonds is still one of our readers' favorite fragrances. The fact that hers has stood the test of time, even though every hot celebrity has a fragrance, says a lot about her as a beauty icon," said Allure's Laird.
